Becky Blalock is a veteran of the corporate world. She began her career at Southern Company, an $18 billion corporation and one of the nation’s largest utility companies, in 1979, where she rose to become senior vice president and chief information officer before retiring in 2011. In addition to her work in IT, she held leadership positions in accounting, finance, marketing, corporate communications, external affairs, and customer service—often as the first woman in the company to do so. Becky is a partner with Advisory Capital, where she provides strategic consulting, and serves on the boards of companies involved in energy, information technology, and medicine.
A sought-after speaker, Becky has long been recognized as a thought leader in the IT and utility industries. Energy Biz magazine named her CIO of the Year in 2009, Computer World magazine named her a Premier IT Leader, and she is listed in the Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. An advocate for women and children, she is a member of the YWCA’s Academy of Women Achievers and was presented with the Shining Star Award from the Atlanta Women’s Foundation. Becky has a master’s degree from Mercer University and a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of West Georgia. She completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard University. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband, Jim, and Dare is her first book.
